I am a regular caver and recently needed a new main headlamp which is what I am using this light for. When I received the light it took a few minutes to assemble the straps in the correct fashion as there aren't instructions, but unlike the other reviews the top strap is plenty long when assembled correctly. I then put in 4 Rayovac AAs that I had laying around to test it out and no dice, the unit appeared DOA but this is not the case. As previously mentioned there are two plastic shoulders on the outside battery slots that will keep some batteries from making proper contact. I swapped the batteries out for new Duracells that I always use for caving and the light is perfect. That is my only complaint on this light as I see no function of this and I think it is causing a lot of negative reviews.
Once I verified everything is working I threw away the straps and mounted this to my helmet, the wire is plenty long to position the battery where you like and tie down the wire with zip ties where you like. Battery life is amazing even on the higher settings. The lower settings are nice for when you are talking to others so you don't blind them. I have abused this light heavily and ran it thru the water and mud with no issues. The light is a crisper white than I've seen.
