Dajo Adventure Gear Ascent Knife With Folding 2-inch Stainless Steel Blade Reviews
I have this weakness for relatively small pocket knives. So when I saw the Ascent, I figured it'd be worth a shot for around $15. After handling it for a few weeks I've got mixed feelings about this knife. Physically I like the design. It looks an awful lot like the Boker Subcom, which I don't own but which I've always been interested in acquiring. The blade is rather short, but very wide for its length. The handle isn't too long, but the extra width makes gripping it not too difficult. The thumb stud is placed high up on the blade so it is very easy to access. It's actually one of the most easily accessible thumb studs of any knife I own. Straight out of the box the tension wasn't quite right on the blade and the blade wasn't centered well. A couple times the liner lock wouldn't engage properly because it. I had to manually adjust the centering and tension, but since then it opens and closes smoothly and I haven't had any more issues with the liner lock. The clip is a little bit flimsy. It has a little too much wiggle in it and there's no way to adjust it. The handle has a slight texture to it that improves the grip, but it also makes it rough on jeans when you clip your knife to your pocket. The "precision" tweezers aren't even worth mentioning. SAK or Leatherman tweezers are far superior. I haven't used it too heavily but it's a decent cutter. About what you'd expect for the price.
All in all the build quality is a bit below what I'm used to (my other knives are in the $30-$100 range). And while it's not a terrible knife in any respect, it doesn't stand out in any way either. But considering the cost I think it's worthy of a 4-star rating.
