Through trial and error, I found that when you have the back off with the clasp portion (same side as the on/off button) at the top, you need to have the left battery in normal position, with the right battery in "upside down" position. Then it worked. I have the Exploration model of the Coleman LED headlamp. There are no instructions with this headlamp and the markings inside are no help. Now that I have it working, the lights are really bright. I have a larger Coleman headlamp, and this little one seems to be as bright with less weight. I gave only four stars because of the lack of instructions which caused me to search all over the Internet for help, call the Coleman company (which was closed), a waste of about 30 minutes. The Coleman website didn't even have this lamp listed. Other websites didn't contain info about this lamp either. It might be out of production. I finally figured out how to put the batteries in through process of elimination by using different combinations.
