Spyderco Dragonfly2 Lightweight Black Frn Plainedge Knife For Sale
I recently bought an Ambitious and like it well enough. After carrying it for awhile, I felt like it was a bit much for an EDC blade. It was a bit too bulky, too big a blade, too heavy...Good knife for the money, but I wanted something that would simply disappear in my pocket. So I started looking into the smaller offerings that Spyderco had. The Spyderco Dragonfly 2 stuck out and really fits that bill well. It weighs only 1.2oz, has a small-medium size blade, and good god...the pocket carry is amazing. It's small, lightweight and packs an awesome punch. Just what I was looking for.
The ergonomics are really where the knife shines bright, though. It just sits so wonderfully in the hand and makes the knife feel like an extension of your hand. THIS is what a good knife should feel like! (The Ambitious, on the other hand always felt to me like a slab of plastic with a blade attached in comparison to this) The index and middle finger wrap so delicately around the blade and handle, you can tell they really thought out how a hand should grip this knife.
I love the gimping on the choil and the thumb ramp. Makes the knife really feel good and solid in the hand. Lockup of the blade is solid. I don't feel like it will be an issue at all.
The clip doesn't dig into your palm on the rear, either, something I was worried about. The FRN really feels quite good despite looking just the teeniest bit cheap. Neither too grippy nor too smooth.
My only gripe is that I want a brown color much like the Delica series!!
Slipping it into your pocket, you can tell it just becomes nothing. It rides fine, a tad high, but then again I prefer a knife to absolutely disappear. What I'm really talking about here is pocket "real estate". This knife will allow you to reach into your pocket and grab your zippos, keys, flashlights, whatever. The Ambitious however, took up too much room and I felt like I was working around the knife to get to my items. I'd scratch my knuckles on occasion because of that. The other cool thing about the Dragonfly is that you can turn it around so that the face is outward and clip it inside the coin pocket of your jeans, letting the end hang inside your big pocket. I would only feel safe with this method if you're using it on and off for a short time though. Pocket carry is always the least likely way to lose your knife.
The Ambitious is a great knife for the cash, don't get me wrong. I just feel like this knife is what I was looking for the whole time and I'm lucky that I only spent ~25 and not a fortune like some in search for the "right" knife :)
I can just tell that this knife will be great EVERY day, and I won't easily get sick of it as quickly. This is a great knife for your girlfriend's glovebox or purse by the way. I also own a Ladybug, but for the price, this one fits in the hand with more authority, comfort and just plain feels better. It easily will slip into a clutch as well, so they'll also like that if they're girly-girls :)
I've uploaded a size comparison photo of the Ambitious and the Dragonfly if you're interested.
EDIT: After 4 months of straight EDC, I can say with utmost confidence that this is the best blade for me to carry. Absolutely invisible in my pocket, sharp as hell, (only had to sharpen twice so far, and not much at that) and it's not let me down one time. I'm on the lookout for other small Spydies just to have around and daily on occasion just for a change of pace. But the Dragonfly...Well, now I want several more in varying colours!
